Digital Catapult Tests Wireless Network in the UK

loTUK Boost, a government funded programme has begun to take place in the United Kingdom. Digital Catapult is the company in charge of the entire production and has chosen Cambridge Wireless thee company to put it in to play. Beside the leading company, Cambridge there are partners located from Bristol to Yorkshire in the UK. This government ran project has been implemented in hopes of supporting the “SMEs developing internet of things (LoT) enabled services and applications using a LoRa wireless network in Cambridge.”

One of the main focuses of introducing this new innovative network is to begin to target some of the restrictions that entering into the (loT) market presents. Currently the CW programme is making great use of the LoRaWAN network.

“LoRaWAN is designed to provide Low Power Wide Area Network with features specifically needed to support low-cost, mobile, secure bi-directional communication for Internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M), and smart city, and industrial applications.” The Smart Cambridge programme is currently using the LoRaWAN Network that is under the Great Cambridge City Deal that was implemented in April of 2015.

Eager to complete the project the CEO of CW, Mr. Robert Driver states,” “We hope this is just the first step in encouraging all the main LPWAN technology providers to test and explore the delivery of real world solutions into Cambridge.”” Along with Smart Cambridge there has also been a total of six other partners that were chosen from wide-spread locations in the UK as well. The partners vary from many different sources such as Everynet, the LoRa Alliance, Iotic Labs, Smart Cambridge and the University of Cambridge. The project is in search of 10 more qualified companies to full fill spots in the programme and will be presented in the CW International Conference in the summer.
